If sporting a belly bump has you hanging up your cosplay cred, think again! You can definitely still cosplay when pregnant! In fact, I plan on doing so next weekend (and can’t wait to share the results with you all). You may think that I’m just going to go as a pregnant version of a favorite character, but think again!
The way to work around your bump is to not do so at all! The secret is to embrace your new curves, so to speak, and find some characters that may share the same body shape or outfit choices. Once you do, that’s when the fun begins!
Here are some of my top picks for cosplays when you are sharing space with another human;
(Clockwise)
- Lumpy Space Princess; She is definitely everyone’s lumpin’ favorite diva! Putting together an LSP cosplay is very easy and is low maintenance to walk around in, which is highly appealing when dealing with swollen ankles or feet. This lovely lady opted for a ruffled dress, but other flowy tunic style purple dresses would do just fine. Make sure to emphasize those lumps to really channel LSP’s hot bod. 😉
- Daenerys Targaryen; Sure, this cosplay may be overdone, but you can’t go wrong with what is basically a loose fitting maxi dress. Plus, she is the MOTHER of dragons, so it works perfectly. For an added touch, bring along a dragon’s egg with your future child’s name on it.
- Stay Puft Marshmallow Man; Nothing says Stay Puft like roundness, so a pregnant belly does this cosplay just fine! I wouldn’t even opt for the actual bubbly outfit, but a more form fitting one like the one pictured to really accentuate that bump and make it play in with the character.
- TARDIS; Another overdone cosplay, but a cute one nonetheless! I especially like this little cutie’s take on it by creating a shift dress in its image. This would work great with a pregnant belly, providing enough room and comfort to get you through the grueling convention floor.
Look out for my own maternity cosplay in the weeks to come!
