You may or may not have heard the term “Dinseybounding” before but perhaps you don’t know what it means or where to get started.
As long as there have been Disney films people of all ages have loved them. Typically people that love characters (fans) want to dress up as their favorites and children have always been allowed in the Disney theme parks in costumes while adults are not allowed – except at special event theme nights, so several years ago (in the social media age) a new trend started popping up – Disneybounding…
What is it? Disneybounding is creating a closet cosplay – using non-costume street clothes to give the essence of a character from a Disney movie or TV show. There aren’t really any rules to creating a Disneybound other than it can’t be a costume. So, the most common type of Disneybound is based on color blocking or wearing the color scheme of the character you are trying to portray. If you want to Disneybound as Alice, from Alice in Wonderland but you are dark haired that’s fine – you don’t need a wig – for example – if you are either a guy or a girl you could wear a yellow hat, or scarf, or headband to represent her golden hair…. blue and white would most commonly be used to represent her outfit and your shoes would probably be black… throw in some accessories like a purse or bag that looks like a white rabbit or jewelry with a playing card, heart, bunny, or tea theme – and you have gone above and beyond.
Where do people Disneybound? It is most commonly done at the Disney theme parks but there are groups online like Disneybounders Unite that do weekly and monthly challenges and people participate while going about their everyday lives. You’ll see nurses in scrubs color blocking, lawyers, students, and children joining in, while living their normal life.
As I write this we are in the middle of a Global Pandemic and most big cities are under lockdown and most families are stuck indoors – this is a great time to join in the fun and find a reason to get out of your pajamas.
March every year there is a daily Disneybound Challenge – the themes change every year – but every single day of March there is a theme… I decided during this time I wanted to join in- I joined a little late… So, here are some of my looks…. but even since march there have been unofficial daily challenges too…
If you are looking for a disneybound challenge or just a fashion challenge there are lots of nerdy ones going around…
Well, go out there and bound! Don’t forget to show us your looks!
