There are so many film festivals in Los Angeles, it’s hard to choose what to go see and sort through all the nonsense. However, there is one festival that is always a can’t miss event… The Etheria Film Night is an independent film festival that features 1 feature length film & 6 shorts at Hollywood’s famous and historic Egyptian theater. What makes Etheria so great? All films are directed by females and they are all genre films that typically follow female characters. Over 500 submissions are whittled down to the best 7, and all the films are fantastic ranging from horror to sci-fi.
A few awards are given out to the film that is voted best by a panel of very worthy judges, an audience choice award and a honorary award to a female that has gone above and beyond in her field in tv/film. This year’s honoree was writer/producer Jane Espenson (whose work can be seen on Buffy, Battlestar, Game of Thrones, and most currently on Once Upon A Time).
The films were stellar and my favorites included “SLUT” an AFI film that was a modernized retelling of Little Red Riding Hood set in the late 1970’s in a small town. “Godel Incomplete” a sci-fi / time travel piece from Australia that follows a woman in love with a scientist from the past and helps him iron out his theories. Lastly, I was a huge fan of “Shevenge” a girl powered, let’s get even, comedy directed by Buffy’s Amber Benson that features performances by friends of Fashionably Nerdy. Really none of the films disappointed and neither did the fashions of the evening!
First I’ll start with our team…
Anastasia looked lovely in her We Love Fine Loki Top…
and because It was Pride Weekend in Los Angeles and Jane Espenson was being honored she also chose this adorable necklace
Completely unplanned her outfit complimented my Thor Dress from the Marvel, Her Universe for Hot Topic line that I was wearing…
I also have the best arm candy a girl could ever ask for, Russ (my man) was looking quite dapper as well.
Our Friend Brea Grant (a judge for the event) was looking beautiful as always in a little red number complete with very clever cleaver necklace (I suppose that’s an homage to her Nerdist.com web series “The Real Housewives of Horror” that features a cleaver in the logo)
My other fabulous arm candy was the always gorgeous and talented Heidi Cox (Dweeb Darlings) in a vintage yellow dress (that once belonged to her mother)
Heidi caught up with friend Megan Lee Joy who stars in “Shevenge”
These ladies from Poprageous know how to dress to impress at Etheria
Loved this Kate Spade purse spotted on a lovely lady from Yay LA Magazine
Gotta admit this girl definitely knows how to rock some ModCloth
After last week’s awesome and shocking Game of Thrones – who isn’t on Team Khalessi?
Amber Benson & friend look awesome there to both present an award to Jane Espenson and also support “Shevenge” which Amber directed
The director of horror film “El Gigante” looked scary chic – the pop of pink in her shoes was an awesome choice
Dressing down is totally fine when you are sporting this awesome Furiousa Tee from TeeFury.com
Star Wars skirts are always a winner!
I’m not positive but this dress sure looks like a Ted Baker. I LOVE Ted Baker.
A Puppy is always a wonderful accessory
It’s fun to go to events like this when you get to run into so many awesome friends.
America Young also did the fight and stunt choreography on “Shevenge” that her new husband, Dove Meir stars in.
I got to be on a live streamed show on the carpet for my friends and family over at TheStream.tv
As you can clearly see the Etheria Film Night is an event you never want to miss! Thanks to Heidi Honeycutt and the whole Etheria team for inviting me to take part in such a wonderful festival again – and I hope to see you all (in your geek chic attire) next year!
