We recently caught up with the adorable Jessica McDonald known for finding healthy food options and family friendly activities while on Disney adventures. Jessica describes her style as “subtly retro inspired and feminine, with a lot of Disney style incorporated too!”
FN: Who is your real or fictional style icon and why?
JM: Carrie Bradshaw for accessorizing, fun purses and unique pattern combinations
FN: Does your Instagram have a specific brand, theme or color-scheme?
JM: I have a family friendly-Disney inspired feed
FN: Does that effect what you wear or how you post?
JM: I try to dress in an outfit if it has a Disney piece in it, or a Disneybound. I do have a lot of photos in my feed with pops of red, but just because it’s my favorite color! I don’t go out of my way to try to have red in every photo though, it just happens naturally.
Most of my closet is Disney items, since I feel my best when I’m showing my love of Disney or dressed themed to the Disney destination I’m going to.
FN: Who is your Disney style icon and why?
JM: Minnie Mouse for sure! I love poofy skirts and swing skirts, and polka dots
FN: How does your love for Harry Potter effect your style?
JM: When I go to Universal Studios I typically dress in Gryffindor house colors, since that’s my house!
FN: Is there a fandom that you think people would be surprised you love? JM: Not sure if it’s surprising, but probably the ones I don’t talk about on my page as much are The Real Housewives franchises and Sex and the City!
FN: What trends do you think defined fashion in 2019?
JM: Well not sure as a whole, but for me I feel like the trends I started wearing a lot this year were t-shirts with a tie knot in front with a box pleat skirt, and I love wearing berets with large hair clips on them!
FN: What are your favorite brands that fit your esthetic these days?
JM: I primarily shop on ASOS and Unique Vintage for staples, and then Box Lunch for Disney items! I hardly ever shop anywhere else unless it’s at the Disney Parks or for a Harvey’s purse 🙂
FN: If you were shopping for the following – where would you go?
1. Athletic wear – Fabletics
2. Formal wear – ASOS
3. Maternity – ASOS
4. Kids clothes – Disney Store, and I find so much cute Target brand stuff!
5. Plus size – Unique Vintage or ASOS
6. Swim wear – Red Dolly Swim and Unique Vintage
7. Men’s fashion – Unique Vintage
8. Work wear – Unique Vintage, ModCloth and ASOS
9. Shoes – Nordstrom
10. Accessories – Box Lunch
11. Babies – Disney Store
FN: What’s your favorite piece right now in your closet?
JM: Well with it near the holiday season, my Hell Bunny green plaid jumper I got from Unique Vintage
FN: If you want to invest in something really unique that might be a little more expensive but a key piece you’ll get a lot of wear from – what would you suggest?
JM: ASOS! They have so many great staples that are high quality, and classic yet somehow always with a little unique flair!
FN: If you don’t have a lot of money to spend and you want to add several new pieces to your wardrobe where would you shop?
JM: ASOS (they have so many affordable and great clearance items too)
FN: What fandom out there currently are you dying to see a line based on?
JM: Sex and the City! Would also love to see more of The Office
FN: Name some other Instagram accounts we should be following?
JM:
@theabbyshayne
@magicbymuses
@abitwong
@katherinealice
@erikaenchanted
@tiffiestarchild
@followtheyellowbrickgirl
@heathertraska
@fancytreehouse
FN: What collections have you been blown away by recently?
JM: Unique Vintage‘s holiday collection!
FN: Do you have plans to have your own line in the future?
JM: No current plans! Although I would love to someday be able to help design clothes made to fit well on bustier gals (I often have a hard time finding clothes that fit my frame that also will fit my bust, most of the time shirts are too tight around my bust but fit well everywhere else.
FN: What brands are problematic that people should avoid/why?
JM: I shop at places that only carry plus sizes too. I feel uncomfortable supporting brands that only offer XS-L, I want to support brands that have more inclusive sizing!
FN: What advice do you have for young people trying to find their personal style?
JM: Think about your style icons (fictional and non fictional) and write down what exactly you like about their style. I think this would be a great jumpstart to brainstorming and getting clarity on what your personal style is. It took me a while to find mine because for the longest time I thought my style had to conform to what was expected of me by my peers. I now feel like I’m at a point where I feel confirdent to put together outfits according to my personal style!
