We know we are extremely lucky to have the child that has slept through the night since she was pretty much born… so why would we need a product to help our 2 month old sleep better? We got the Dock-a-Tot to try out as a travel bed because we are the crazy folks that also decided we wanted to travel all over the world with an infant. But before we ever left our apartment we decided to start using the dock-a-tot at home to get her used to it… and man, I love this thing so much. Not only is the print on our dock-a-tot absolutely gorgeous and the material breathable and soft but this product more than anything gives me piece of mind.
When we first put her in it I could not believe the model we chose would last her till she was 8-9 months old – here she was like maybe 6 weeks old and she almost looked as long as the product (see photo above from delivery day) I was so confused that I contacted the company and asked if I had chosen the wrong model. But they assured me I had chosen correctly. Sure enough, I slowly started integrating it into her sleep – I would use it when she was just hangin out on the couch taking a nap – because of the high sides and the breathability of the fabric I felt so much safer having her nap in her dock-a-tot than just on a blanket – It gave me confidence that I could run to the bathroom and she wouldn’t roll off the couch or smoother herself with a pillow if i looked away (actual thoughts all mothers have). Then in the mornings after she woke up for a diaper change and a quick feeding she would always have a hard time falling back asleep unless she was held – so we would crawl back into my bed and she would sleep together for a couple of hours with her in my arms. I started to replace my arms with the dock-a-tot. I started to have less fear I would in my sleep roll over on her and the rim of the dock-a-tot was so soft I started to find myself waking up hugging the dock-a-tot with her in it and using the rim as my pillow. And she somehow just fits perfectly in it and I have confidence that she will continue to for months to come.
It has become such an unbelievable staple – I cannot believe we lived without it when she was first born. She does sleep better – she uses a pacifier and she has found that if she drops it or takes it out in the dock-a-tot she can use her hands to retrieve it and return it to her mouth which she finds so much joy in and is so confused when she is in other places and cannot.
We are so glad we also got the travel bag, we are currently on our first trip with Lulu and the Dock-a-tot and the travel bag is amazing – its huge – looks like a chic duffle and because the shape of the dock-a-tot I was able to pack all of Lulu’s items in ziplock bags and place them in the center of her dock-a-tot for travel without needing a separate bag to pack her clothing and items in. It made it through checked baggage in perfect condition and Lulu is sleeping like an angel in a familiar smelling and feeling place that she may not even have noticed we are 3000 miles from home.
