We love the Force Awakens line by the 2015 Her Universe Fashion Show winners and want to give them some due praise with this series of photo journals showcasing their designs while they are still available on Hot Topic and Torrid’s websites.
Today we are focusing on The BB-8 Sweetheart Dress.
described as…
“Join the Rebellion and transform into your favorite astromech droid in this Hot Topic exclusive dress from Star Wars featuring a woven Jacquard BB-8 pattern fabric, BB-8 eye belt and buckle, mesh shoulder detail and tulle underskirt. Back zipper closure”
“For BB-8 I was very inspired by vintage (1950’s) dresses. The hip details were perfect for facilitating a nipped waist and full hem while directly referencing his character design. We loved the idea of having a belt, of having matching accessories in general, which was much more common in vintage dresses. The 3D buckle being his ‘eye’ is a cute throwback that also helps create the visual illusion of the dress being BB-8’s body. The Jacquard was another special touch, the raised pattern adds texture and is modeled after his markings.” – Kelly Cercone (2015 Her Universe Fashion Show Judges Winner)

We have the stunning Kat Andrusco modeling this dress for us.
This dress is fabulous and you can really see the vintage inspired details and textures right away. Kelly is super wonderful at creating super feminine pieces that are whimsical but look wonderful and show off curves in a very flattering way – whether you have curves naturally or not her pieces are great on any body shape because they either accentuate the ones you have or give you ones you never thought you had.

The dress does run a little on the smaller side and has very little stretch in the body – so consider possibly sizing up. Though the mesh top is very stretchy
This dress is lined and the skirt does have a tulle petti-coat attached to give you some structure and make the skirt fuller. The belt is adorable but very unstructured i highly suggest taking a needle and thread and tacking it down because the material does wrinkle easily and can flop around but it’s so cute.
